Configuring cron expressions for policies

This section describes how to configure the frequency at which policies run on a schedule using cron expressions.

What is cron

Cron is a standard format for describing a recurring schedule. A schedule consists of one line with five fields separated by spaces. Each field represents a unit of time.

Here's a Template for cron expressions:

┌───────────── минута (0–59)
│ ┌───────────── час (0–23)
│ │ ┌───────────── день месяца (1–31)
│ │ │ ┌───────────── месяц (1–12)
│ │ │ │ ┌───────────── день недели (0–6, где 0—воскресенье)
│ │ │ │ │
* * * * *

When you use a cron expression, the system runs the policy when all fields in the expression match the current time.

Using special characters

You can use specific numbers and special characters in each field.

CharacterMeaningExampleDescription
*any value* * * * *every minute
,list of values0 9,18 * * *at 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM
-range of values0 9-17 * * *every hour from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
/step*/15 * * * *every 15 minutes

You can combine characters. For example, the expression 0 9-17/2 * * 1-5 means "every 2 hours from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on weekdays."

warning

If you specify both the "day of the month" and "day of the week," the policy runs on days that match either condition.
