Create a layer from scratch

Security layer (pipeline) is a grouping entity for security checks. System users can create new security layers or configure existing layers according to their assigned role.

Each security layer is tied to a project.

Security layers are represented as a hierarchy. You can configure layers nested within other layers. The default maximum number of layers is 10, but you can change the maximum nesting level when you deploy the system.

Layer parameters

Each security layer is represented as a separate hierarchy object and includes the following parameters:

  • Layer name;
  • Security check status—the overall status of the layer's checks. The following statuses are available:
    • Ready;
    • No runs yet;
    • Incomplete;
    • In progress;
    • Control failed;
    • Control passed;
  • Scan results for the selected layer;
  • Security issues for the selected layer;
  • Quality gates for the selected layer;
  • Start a new scan—starts a scan;
  • List of security checks.

Create a project layer

To create a new security layer from scratch, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Projects section.
  2. Find the required project.
  3. Go to the project overview page.
  4. Go to the Security layer tab.
  5. Select Add layer.
  6. Select From scratch.
  7. Enter the following information:
    • layer name;
    • description;
    • layer type—the following types are available:
      • landscape;
      • network segment;
      • orchestrator;
      • namespace;
      • service;
      • gateway;
      • release;
      • virtual machine;
      • container;
      • pod;
      • Docker;
      • storage;
      • database.
    • quality gate—you can select one or more previously created quality gates or create a new quality gate.
  8. Add the required fields: you can select previously created fields or create a new field.

For more information about creating quality gates and project fields, see Quality gates and Field builder.

  1. Select Create.

After you create all the required security layers, you can add security checks. For more information, see Create a security check.
